Protecting The citizens of Dallas, Lehman, and surrounding communities

This morning, our crews responded to a natural gas emergency after an excavation company struck a gas service line. What initially appeared to be a service line leak developed into a serious situation, with explosive levels of gas detected in multiple structures.

Back Mountain Regional (Station 121) was in command of the scene, with mutual aid assistance from Shavertown’s truck (Station 251) and Kunkle Fire’s engine (Station 122).

While UGI crews worked diligently to shut down the gas main, firefighters evacuated residents and coordinated with UGI Electric to shut off power in the affected area to reduce the potential for ignition.

During the response, firefighters also discovered a nearby smoldering brush pile and immediately extinguished it, addressing an additional potential ignition source during an already dangerous situation.

Once the gas was isolated, units on scene thoroughly ventilated all affected homes and repeatedly checked gas levels with meters to confirm conditions had returned to normal. The scene was then turned over to UGI Gas.

The potential for a catastrophic outcome was very real, and time was critical. Thanks to the dedicated professionals in our community whose quick actions, training, and teamwork helped prevent this emergency from becoming a tragedy.

Thank you to all responding crews, UGI Gas, and UGI Electric. Multiple departments, one shared mission: protecting our community. Outstanding work by all.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken in a matter of hours. We remember every person who went to work that morning, boarded a plane, answered an emergency call, or simply began an ordinary day that would never be ordinary again.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, military members, and countless everyday heroes who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape it.

And today, we also remember those we have lost in the 25 years since — the first responders, recovery workers, survivors, and others who later died from cancers, respiratory illnesses, and other conditions connected to the attacks and the months of rescue and recovery that followed.

For so many families, September 11th never truly ended.

May we never forget those who died that day, those who have died since, and those who continue to carry the physical and emotional scars of 9/11.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their names, their courage, their sacrifice, and the families who still feel their absence every single day.

We will never forget.

I'm at wits end here. I sent my membership check in and you received it June 17th. It still has not been cashed. I called the nonemergency number weeks ago, spoke to a gentleman and left my number for someone to return my call.. No one did. I emailed the email address on your website twice, and received no response. I emailed the company that handles your fund drive at: support@eservicestech.com, and received no response. Would someone please get to whoever handles your finances and cash my check! I'm trying to close the checking account but cannot until this check is cashed. I've tried every way of contacting someone to help. IM me for the address please. Thank you

Hope to see you all at National Night Out tomorrow!

You forgot the one that says wait for the neighborhood to be on fire before calling 911 too.

As many of our residents know, for many years we have been fortunate to have an amazing college program filled with outstanding students who have stepped up to volunteer their time in both fire and EMS.

Today, we want to take a moment to spotlight one of our alumni, Nick, who graduated from the FDNY Academy this week and will be starting his assignment with Engine 324 in Queens.

Congratulations, Nick! We are proud of you and wish you the best as you begin this next chapter!

Early this morning, around 2:00 AM, Dallas Borough Police were patrolling the Borough when they noticed a plume of white smoke. During the officer’s investigation, he arrived on Main Street and found the rear deck of a residence on fire, likely originating from a smokeless fire pit.

Borough Police immediately summoned the Fire Department and banged on the door to alert the sleeping occupants. Once everyone was safely evacuated, police and the residents worked to keep the fire at bay using buckets of water.

Volunteers with Regional Engine 1 were first on scene and deployed a line to knock down the remaining fire.

Great job by Dallas Borough Police, Regional Fire & Rescue, and all of the volunteers from our mutual aid departments who were responding as well. Thank you for your quick action and dedication to keeping our community safe. ... See MoreSee Less

Summer is here! PA Emergency Management Agency wants to remind everyone on the signs to look for to stay safe and healthy in this heat! One of the first signs of heat illness is muscle cramps, so if you start cramping up it's time to act:

— Get someplace cooler, stat ☃️
— Remove excess clothing 👋
— Drink a cool sports drink 🧃
— Avoid caffeine/alcohol 🚫🍸

Seek medical help if your cramps don't go away in an hour, you have heart problems, or you are on a low-sodium diet. ... See MoreSee Less

At the recent Lake-Lehman School Board meeting, Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS junior firefighters Ben Figura and Logan Wilhelm were recognized alongside fellow junior members from Noxen Volunteer Fire Company, Harveys Lake Volunteer Fire Company, and Idetown Volunteer Fire Company.

Throughout the school year, these dedicated young firefighters played an important role in supporting school safety initiatives and emergency drills. Their willingness to serve and contribute demonstrates a strong commitment to both their departments and the broader community.

Thank you, Ben and Logan, and all of the junior firefighters, for the many ways you give back. Your dedication, teamwork, and sense of responsibility are making a real difference.

Your leadership at such a young age is truly outstanding, and our community is fortunate to have you.

Clarification Regarding EMS Subscriptions

We've noticed a few posts containing some inaccurate information, and we’d like to clear up any confusion. Since Back Mountain Regional EMS began offering ambulance services in 1955, we’ve accepted subscriptions from residents outside our area of responsibility. Currently, our subscription is accepted by Plains Ambulance and Trans Med.

At this time, Kunkle Ambulance does not accept subscriptions from Back Mountain Regional, but we remain hopeful that this will change soon.

It’s important to note that each EMS organization determines the specific benefits provided with their subscription. For Back Mountain Regional, subscribers can expect to pay zero out of pocket expenses for services if all policy deductibles are met. Other ambulance companies may offer a percentage reduction in the bill instead.

For more details or to sign up for our subscription, please visit our website:

A well-deserved and happy retirement. Thank you for your years of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to our community. We appreciate everything you’ve done and wish you the very best in this next chapter. 🚔🚒A message from Chief Doug Higgins
February 27, 2026

To the Residents of Dallas Township,

As I reflect on the past 35 years of my career, I find that words often fall short. The time has passed quickly, and many moments have blurred together—a reminder of how full and demanding this profession can be. Law enforcement was not the path I originally chose; I once planned to become a surveyor. But I firmly believe that God places us exactly where we are meant to be, and He led me to a life of service to this community.

Throughout these years, there were countless moments when I walked away thinking, “That was close,” or “I’m not sure how we made it out of that.” Looking back, I know it was only by God’s grace and protection that I was able to return home each day.

I have met some of the kindest and most compassionate people one could hope to encounter. I have also met individuals whose actions reflected the darkest sides of humanity. Yet, no matter the circumstances, I always tried to treat every person with dignity and respect—even when it was not easy.

To my fellow officers: remember that the people you encounter are often living through one of the most stressful moments of their lives. Treat them with the same respect and understanding you would want for yourself or your family. And above all, never forget that your safety must always come first.

To the community—thank you. Thank you for trusting me with the honor of serving as your Chief of Police. From the beginning, my goal was to build trust, strengthen relationships, and bring our police department and residents closer together. A community that supports one another is a community that thrives. I am deeply proud of the unity, resilience, and strength that define Dallas Township.

To the coworkers I have served with, past and present: thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and support. It has been a privilege to walk this path with you, and I will always be grateful to those who stood beside me and watched my back.

And to my family—thank you for your patience through the late nights, the missed birthdays, the interrupted holidays, and all the sacrifices this career demanded. I could not have done any of this without you. This job often asked more of you than of me, and I am forever grateful.

As I close this chapter, I do so with gratitude, humility, and deep appreciation for the people of this township. Thank you for the trust you placed in me. Thank you for the privilege of serving you. And thank you for allowing me to call Dallas Township home—not just as a resident, but as your Chief.

I will continue to pray for our officers—that they may be surrounded by God’s protection, and that He grants them the wisdom, courage, and compassion to face the unimaginable in service to others.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Douglas Higgins

Congrats

Congratulations

Thank you Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS, Dallas PA for the very kind and encouraging words 😊

On 2/27/26 at approximately 7:59am, Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS was dispatched to the area of the Dallas Mobile Home Park for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, crews located a two-vehicle collision with significant damage. One occupant was found trapped inside the smaller vehicle. Firefighters deployed hydraulic rescue tools to safely extricate the patient with the assistance of Kunkle FD and Trucksville FD.

The patient was removed within approximately 15 minutes and transferred to BMR EMS for evaluation and transport to a local hospital. The truck operator was assessed on scene by Kunkle EMS.

Fire personnel and Dallas Twp EMA also mitigated hazards including a moderate sized diesel fuel leak. The roadway remained closed for approximately 80 minutes.

Big thank you too Kunkle and Trucksville Fire Departments for their assistance.

We appreciate the public’s cooperation and support with the road closure.

Is there a better way to give donation other than FB?

People on Trucksville and Shavertown have their own fire dept. and are not in your primary coverage area. This says FIRE DEPT DONATIONS and I don't believe its for EMS coverage. CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN ‼️

I’ve tried to keep ours cleared over the years but I’m getting older and our neighbors are disabled and/or elderly, now. Could they clear the one in New Goss manor at Highland and Hillcrest by the big rock? I would sleep better knowing it’s cleared for our neighbors.

Much appreciated 👏

🚒❄️ Fire Hydrant Reminder ❄️🚒

When clearing snow around fire hydrants, please remember:
👉 A minimum of 3 feet of clear space is needed ALL the way around the hydrant.

This gives firefighters room to connect hoses quickly and safely when seconds matter most. A hydrant that’s only partially cleared can still slow down an emergency response.

Your effort truly makes a difference.
Clear a path. Help save a neighbor.

𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: August 14, 2025

Dallas Township, PA — On August 14, 2025, at approximately 10:58 a.m., Dallas Township Police were dispatched to a residence on Lake Street for a reported domestic incident.

The initial investigation determined that a female suspect had allegedly assaulted a male victim the previous night. After the victim was able to leave the residence, he contacted police. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The female barricaded herself inside the residence. Officers attempted to make contact and negotiate with her, but she refused to exit. As a precaution, Lake Street was closed between College Manor and Elmcrest, and the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team (PSP SERT) was requested to assist.

After negotiations were unsuccessful, the PSP SERT Team entered the residence and took the female into custody without further incident. Charges are pending.

Lake Street was reopened to traffic at approximately 4:45 p.m. Officers remain on scene processing evidence.

Special thanks to Back Mountain Regional Fire and EMS, Kunkle Fire Co., Pennsylvania State Police SERT, PennDOT and the Dallas Township Road Department for their assistance during this incident. ... See MoreSee Less

Mailed mine today but I’m curious why the BM Regional EMS is paying a firm in Pittsburgh to collect membership fees? I would think we have a local firm that could do the same?

A residential structure box was transmitted tonight In Dallas Township. Upon the arrival of Chief Three & 121 rescue, the box was held to Regional and Shavertown. Units operated for approximately one hour. Great job by all the volunteers who responded.

Wild Guess!! Grill Fire or Hot Ashes in a Trash Can

Thank you to all the volunteers who are available any day, any time. Please remember them during their fund drive.

Great response by all volunteers

I woke up to smoke against my foundation yesterday morning. The mulch was hot, and the masonry was scorching. I raked away from the house to determine it wasn't the landscape wires..after flipping off circuit breakers... no electric involvement, so hosed down all of the mulch! Upon some research I found that mulch is highly flammable. I assume our little event..that could have turned ugly..was either an errant cigarette or firework "ash". We really need to stay aware of our surroundings and what can happen.

I hope no one was hurt

No one injured. Thank you fire fighters.🇺🇸❤️🙋🏼‍♀️

Prayers to his family and friends 🙏🏻

My condolences to the family and his friends, God Bless, hugs 🙏❤

Prayers for family and friends 🙏

Condolences 🙏

Prayers for his family, friends and colleagues.

Thank u for your service.

So sorry for your loss. 🙏✝️🙏

I read about this today. I am so very sorry.

Sending love to the family and friends of Dustin Eyerman ❤️

There are no words that can truly ease the pain of losing one of our own. As firefighters, we form a bond that goes beyond the job—it’s a family built on trust, courage, and sacrifice. When we lose one of our own, we don’t just mourn a colleague; we mourn a brother, a sister, a hero. The firehouse feels quieter now, the gear rack a little more solemn. But their spirit—their bravery, their laughter, their unwavering commitment—will never leave us. They stood shoulder to shoulder with us in the toughest moments, and their memory will continue to stand with us every single day. We honor their sacrifice not just with ceremony, but by carrying forward their strength in our hearts. We’ll continue the watch, holding the line with pride and purpose, because that’s what they would have done. Rest easy, brother. We’ve got it from here.

Thank you for your service sir. God bless you with peace and joy! May Dustin's memory inspire us to be brave, selfless, and kind in our own communities.

Thank you for your service....so sorry.. prayers for his family and friends 🙏 🙏

This is so heartbreaking.. I didn't know him... but what a great loss to our area. So young.. Prayers to everyone who knew him 🙏 Especially his family...

Prayers

🙏🙏🙏

🙏

Thank you 🥺

Why Volunteer as a Firefighter?

Because there’s no greater feeling than knowing your time and effort mean something. That when someone calls for help—on their worst day—you’re the one who shows up. Not for money. Not for praise. But because you care.

It’s not always easy. The hours can be long. The calls can be tough. But every time that siren sounds, you’re reminded: you are the difference. You’re part of a team that steps forward when others can’t.

You learn, you grow, you lead—and you become part of something bigger than yourself. You build bonds, save homes, protect lives, and inspire the next generation to care just as much.

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be willing. Your community doesn’t need superheroes—it needs heart, commitment, and courage. It needs you.

Join us. Be the reason someone sleeps safer tonight.
Volunteer. Serve. Belong.

Today volunteers had three big calls
A brushfire
A residential structure
And another brushfire

It is very windy and dry out so conditions are prime for fire to spread. Please hold off on any burning until we get a good rain

Due to the size of these incidents, we relied on multiple mutual aid departments and we’d like to thank them for their assistance today
