Protecting The citizens of Dallas, Lehman, and surrounding communities

This morning, our crews responded to a natural gas emergency after an excavation company struck a gas service line. What initially appeared to be a service line leak developed into a serious situation, with explosive levels of gas detected in multiple structures.

Back Mountain Regional (Station 121) was in command of the scene, with mutual aid assistance from Shavertown’s truck (Station 251) and Kunkle Fire’s engine (Station 122).

While UGI crews worked diligently to shut down the gas main, firefighters evacuated residents and coordinated with UGI Electric to shut off power in the affected area to reduce the potential for ignition.

During the response, firefighters also discovered a nearby smoldering brush pile and immediately extinguished it, addressing an additional potential ignition source during an already dangerous situation.

Once the gas was isolated, units on scene thoroughly ventilated all affected homes and repeatedly checked gas levels with meters to confirm conditions had returned to normal. The scene was then turned over to UGI Gas.

The potential for a catastrophic outcome was very real, and time was critical. Thanks to the dedicated professionals in our community whose quick actions, training, and teamwork helped prevent this emergency from becoming a tragedy.

Thank you to all responding crews, UGI Gas, and UGI Electric. Multiple departments, one shared mission: protecting our community. Outstanding work by all.
